We made it out of the Embassy.
Our Embassy interview is finished however not without a little excitement. As we walked up to go through the metal detectors there was a fabulous seal and sign declaring this the US Embassy. I thought that it would make a terrific photo for the blog. The gentleman behind the counter however was not as thrilled that I would take a picture. He told me that if I did not erase the picture he would make a report and that the report would...Go down on my permanant record! Golden Boys in Hanoi! Well, I did erase the photo, so, you will not get to see the source of the trouble. We did finish our interview after some interesting questions.
Is the child under 16? Haden was sitting in Dedras lap drinking a bottle, I hope he is under 16.
Has the child ever been married? I was again mystified! Although he is my son.
He then laughed and said some of the questions he would not ask because they were too silly.
Pray that we have our second interview before next Thursday, because that would have us all ready to leave on Friday!

I guess 9/11 changed a lot of things. At least you were given the option of deleting the picture...LOL. Our neighbor's nephew was one of the Marine guards for several foreign-based US Embassys in the past few years and in his words "We weren't sent there to play."
Haden seems to be such a happy baby. Hanna seems to be handling this journey and travel with ease.
We continue to pray for you and now the focus will have to be that everyone gets to leave together a week from today. Did they give you any indication of how long it might be or is that another secret of bureaucracy.
Love the pictures!
Love and Godspeed
It is 6:30 here in Grandview.Just wanted to see if you had posted anything else.
It looks like Hanna and Haden are doing great. How are you guys holding up to all the stress? I hope your okay.Your going to have to get home soon as my computer is needing a rest. I think it is shock, being used for something other than downloading embroidery patterns from the internet.
Did Hanna get up to help with Haden last night? She has become quit the Big Sister. I wonder how long it will take for this to wear off.We hope the rest of your trip goes off without a hitch with all the prayers being said for you.I print all the pictures for Poppy to see when he gets home.He has enjoyed all the pictures.
Jeff I guess just keep the pictures to family and trees. God Bless all of you and have a good night and sleep well.Hanna kiss Haden for us and have a good night.
Lots of Love and Prayers

Good Morning Vietnam,
I just could not resist that. Although I know it's far beyond morning in Vietnam right now. It should be 7:36 pm. I just love this blog. It makes ya'll and each happening so personal and so close.
The Embassy. This is not for sissies is it? I'm just glad they let you slide. We'll look at the seal in Life Magazine some day.
Hayden is just way too cute in his "My Dog" outfit and his very cool shoes. (Remember, that his Memaw up above taught me to always look at the feet first because that is where the true sole lies.) Yuk Yuk! How much must he weigh now? I sure hope this box of clothes will still fit him when you all get home. He's happy, healthy and Hicks. Seems as though you've always had him and I love when the Lord's divine plan unfolds right here on earth' right here in our family. What a blessing Hayden is and what a joy he has brought to all of us.
Prayers of thanks heading up and prayers of encouragement, faith and strength continuing for your days ahead.
We love you all,
Graunty Vivi and Gruncle Tosser
Maybe you should have asked the soldier to get in the picture??? or taken it on your way out?? Some things are just dumb and have no reason. But the pictures of Hayden and Hanna are too cute! Good luck with all the red tape, we're praying, crossing fingers and toes, whatever will work!
Hanna, I just want to tell you how beautiful you are in all the pictures and how awesome you and your little brother are. He looks so soft and cuddly and I especially love the one where he has his arm over your throat as if he's protecting you. He is the luckiest little boy in all the world because he has you for a big sister. When you get home I want you to tell me all about him. I can tell how much you love him just by the smiles on your face. I'm taking all the pictures from the blog over to PawPaw's this weekend so he can see his great-grandaughter and great grandson together. He will be so pleased and so happy. Now that we have Hayden in the family, he is the youngest member and PawPaw is the oldest. Age 4-1/2 months to 91 years. WOW! Continue to have a wonderful time with Hayden while you are in Vietnam and give him a great big hug and squeeze for his Graunty Vivi. I'm just screeching until I can get my hands on both of you and just love you to pieces.
I love you, Hanna, Graunty Vivi
Jeff just so you know we really didn't want to see a picture of some seal when we can see such beautiful pictures of Hanna and Haden. I can't wait for ya'll to get home. Macie is missing Hanna terribly and I just can't wait to love all over Haden. Hope your cold is better and maybe your next meeting will come quickly. Try not to get yourself thrown in jail before its time to come home. Now that is a picture I would want to see.haha!! I bet they only serve camel in their jail. Keeping you in our prayers.
Love ya,
Jamey & Macie
The pictures are so sweet. He's going to be a wonderful 100th Birthday surprise for Granny in June. She's going to love him.
Thanks again for the time you have spent on keeping the family and friends updated on your trip. We requested prayers for speedy and safe travel home for all of you.
This morning I got an email back for Camille, she had checked out the blog and said "what a sweet family and such a precious journey of faith and hope" it just went deep into my heart that this journey is being guided by God and I had such peace.
Lisa sends her love and prayers.
Hi
I just could not stand just sitting here and looking at the pictures any longer without saying something. I guess we are going to have to give Graunty Vi and Cuz Nona a lesson on how to spell Haden. You know that Jeff and Dedra do not spell their childrens names normal.haha My understanding Vivi and Nona is, that is how it started and Jeff got to work and decided that spelling did not look right with the last name HICKS but HADEN looked much better. Hanna didn't care she just wanted his name to have the same Initials as hers. By now everyone has figured out that this family needs to be diffrent with more than just names.hehe
It is almost unbareable that I can't get my hands on Hanna and Haden right now. Hanna you are Grandmas special Angel. on't you think Grandma needs to and live with you or at least next door. What a dream come true that would be. Hanna keep kissing and hugging you little brother for Me and Poppy. We love you all so much and miss you. Jeff thanks for all the pictures and info. through all of this. It has made it seem like we have all been a part of the process as much as we could.
We will pray that you will all get to come back together.
Love you all
Poppy and Grandma
Hello all
This blog site and I have been fighting every since ya'll have been gone. Finally I am able to send a message to you!(Jen) I can't wait to chomp on Haden's cheeks!!! How good the Lord is, too good for us to imagine. Ephesians 3:20 says "Now to Him who is able to do abundantly more than we could ask or imagine" Haden's little life is just that. We miss and love you. Please hurry home.Jen
Ouch, ok, misspelled the little boogers name, already doing something wrong! That's ok, I'm sure it'll happen again and again, cause I'm Nona haha!
we are praying you all will be able to come home together.Just remember, What a mighty God we serve, what a mighty God we serve. Angels bow before Him, Heaven and earth adore Him, what a mighty God we serve!!!
love to you all,
Robert, Amanda, Casey and Carli

Good Morning from South Texas,
Haden! That would be capital H -a-d-e-n! Got it! I got caught up in all the excitement and didn't pay attention to the spelling.
Love checking this first thing every morning and maybe you guys got some much needed and well deserved rest yesterday. I'll check back later. Love to all the Hicks on yet another day of this amazing and blessed journey.
Graunty Vi
