Our Adoption Journey

We are still here!

It seems that msn was knocked out for the last 20 hours or so here and we have not been able to access the blog or email. We found another couple from Dallas that have a blog and they have been blocked from reading responses also. I will continue to post and we will be able to enjoy all your comments from Hong Kong. Keep them up. We think it will be wonderful for Haden one day to see all the people who followed us on this journey.

We are still in Hanoi. Everyone in the family are doing fine. Hanna is in her words,"PERFECT." Dedra and I are a little less than perfect, but we are hanging in there. Haden is doing great, although he is waking every 1 1/2 hours through out the night. Life with a baby.

The sun never shines in Hanoi! This is a very dreary city, but the people are very friendly to Americans. We have learned our way around the city and now the cab drivers have to deal with negotiating the fare with me! I LOVE IT! I found myself bartering yesterday with two drivers and after all was said and done Dedra laughed because I was negotiating very loudly over a difference of between 25 and 33 cents. You just can't take that out of me.

The citizens of Hanoi do not believe in order. All traffic situations and lines are a suggestion only. They drive on either side of the road. All lights appear to be optional and if someone wants to turn from any lane of traffic they do! I really enjoy riding around in the caous.

Crossing the street is equally as exciting. If you want to cross you make a line and then wade into the traffic. You can either inch your way through or you can just go and the cyclists realize you are not stopping and they go around or behind you. I have included a couple of pictures of the traffic so you might get an understanding.

Today we are going to the Temple of Literature, and Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. I will have some pictures for you this evening. It looks like Tuesday we will get a car and go to Halong Bay for the day. Then we settle in for the Embassy again Wednesday or Thursday.

Pictures and words could never describe this place! God has blessed us with this adventure.

wow WHAT A TRIP!!!i Other words get in gear and go.ha I guess you and Dedra really do like that kind of traffic. You guys always scare me to death driving. It's like get out of my way because here I come. Are you standing in the middle of the stree with my Grand-children? What are you thinking?ha
This is such an opportunity, to gain as much as you can about your sons heritage to share with him at a later time. How fortunate we are to live in this country, to be able to worship as we wish and to have some input as to how our country is run. What a blessing God has given us her in America.
I am loving the pictures and all the post. Thank the good Lord for giving whomever the knowlege to come up with the technology to create the computer and satelite.
Do you have any idea what if you will be able to come back together yet?Where are the pictures of the kids in the new outfits? Try to post at least on of them. You and Dedra need to get you an offical outfit. I guess I will close for now as it is almost 1:30 TX. time. Love You All and Miss you

What you are doing is way more than an adventure. It is a life changing experience. It's one that Haden will never remember and the rest of you will never forget. We're thankful you're feeling better and are trusting you'll all be able to leave on Friday. Sounds like sweet baby Haden needs some "Gripe Water." The weather looks like it might be a little chilly. Some of the people on the mopeds have surgical masks on, is that to keep their faces warm? We're glad you're seeing the sights and taking lots of pictures. We'll be excited to see the scrapbook that comes out of this experience. Love to all.

PS - Great Granny Hicks said she could see her 8X10 of you guys. We held it under the light for her. We also gave her a handful of 4X6 photographs, but don't know if she'll manage to see them or not. I think she's getting excited about her 100th birthday. She starts cleaning house when she gets excited and she had her desk cleaned to the max.

My goodness! The Mopeds are like an ant bed. Chaotic and buzzing about everywhere. That would drive me nuts, no pun intended. I guess the masks and facial coverings are for the fumes as they literally ride each others tails.

We love the picture of you in the street. Way too cute. Miss Hanna looks like she's grown 5 inches just since the ranch. I'm sure it's because Haden is so small it just makes her look taller. What an awesome big sister she has already become. And with her being "perfect" on this journey, I'm sure the best is yet to come. Glad to know that you and Dedo are hanging in there. Those nighttime sleep disruptions only last a little while. This baby has covered a lot of miles in the last 10 days and his new little mind is just trying to take it all in. Sort of equates to being in our home. I've always said that if you're not ADD when you get here; you will be when you leave. Maybe that's what Haden is experiencing. But, it's all good. What a blessed journey this has been for the Hicks family and for all of us. I love this blog as it truly makes me feel that we've been with you each and every day.

Is the next trip to the embassy to pick up Haden's passport or is there more to it than that? Prayers are flowing that your journey will continue to go as smoothly as it has gone.

I took the pictures and all the postings to PawPaw yesterday and he really enjoyed them. Said he was sure a good looking little fella and fat and happy. We now need to get a picture of Haden on PawPaw's lap as the new generational span will be 91 years to 7-1/2 months when you come for the wedding April. How cool is that?

Have a blessed day and know that we all love you and miss a whole big bunch. Kisses for Haden and Hanna from me. Love, Graunty Vivi

Okay, please do not stand in the middle of the highway with that madness. My nerves are torn up over it!!!! Ya'll can truthfully say we never have a reason to complain about living in America. So glad to hear all is well. Hanna and Haden are so precious. Love Hanna's pigtails and so does Tatum.
God laid Penny on my heart last night so I called this morning for an update on her. She is ruling the roost at Lucky's. You can tell the girls adore her. The girl I spoke with said when they walk by her and don't speak it makes her mad and she starts barking. She loves daycamp and has a special friend named "Macie" who is a teddy bear dog (8 lbs and precious). They said she is doing great and all the girls say hello. Church was awesome yesterday and again our pew was lonely. We went to the second service which was a problem at lunch time!!! McCallister was backed up out the door so we settled for McDonalds. (Scott ate 2 Quarter Pounders and felt awful minutes later)!!!! Love and miss you,

Good Morning from here. Thought I would see how your day went.Hope your night is going to be a little better than it has been. For Haden to have slept through the night the first couple of nights except for one bottle to every 1 1\2 hrs is a big change.
It might be that his little mind is trying to process everything he has done in one days time.He is use to being feed and put back in his crib. He has probably never been held this much in his short life. Kind of like me. I have not typed this much since I have been at home and my finger tips are sore and my computer is working really well.I guess because its doing something other than downloading machine embroidery designs and unziping them.
Well need to close for now will post more later.Have a good day tomorrow. Please don't push your luck, nobody has told you to go play in the traffic in a long time. So moral to this post is,don't do as you have been told to do as a kid by your friends, do as you would tell your children not to do.haha
Enjoy while this adventure last, it wont last forever. Physcially you'll be back to your world soon, mentally you wonder back to this time in your lives forever. What a memory.

It sure sounds like you are having a great time. I know Hanna is having the time of her life. Tell her that Macie is missing her so much though so she needs to hurry home. Church just isn't the same without her. I hope your next meeting with the embassy goes as well as the first and you all can come home together. Counting the days!! We are so blessed to be sharing this journey with you and am so glad that Haden has came into our lives. He is so precious.
Love ya lots,
Jamey & Macie

Glad to see you on line again.
Enjoy the pictures and happy to hear everyone is feeling better.
When you travel around the world you soon see how blessed we are in America. The world view of wealth is so different from our American view and it helps when we travel and see what is really out there.
Lisa and Lauren send hugs and kisses to all of you.

Jeff I really must say what has been on my heart for days now......you have got to let go of the fixation over the Mopeds.....As your elder I must tell you that it is just Nissan or Crown withdrawal. No self-respecting Crown GM could see that number of vehicles and not wish they were from his dealership.....think about that bonus...LOL
It is 2:07 PM on Monday here. Serious prayers are being sent up for that call from the Embassy to be within the next 48 hours. But if not we will not have failed because one thing I have learned finally and now that I am a senior is that God's timetable is never late....it just sometimes does not match my selfish one!
We miss you all and are anxious for you to return soon.
Love and Godspeed

As I sit here reading the Libermans post I wonder if I have missed something about Jeff and Hanna coming home and Dedra and Haden. I hope that you all can be back at home by Monday.

If all goes well at the Embassy this week what will your approx. arrival home be. If not and it takes the whole 14 to 20 days to complete the whole procedure, what will Jeffs and Hannas travel time be and Dedras and Hadens be?Let us all know if at all possible.
